1973 letter from Buckminster Fuller

1973 letter from Buckminster Fuller

Buckminster Fuller wrote this letter to CMPBS (affectionately referred to as “Max Pot” by some) back in 1973. The team took his suggestion to create a network of colleagues very seriously in our development of ProtoScope.

3481870524_ab504db536The ProtoScope ProtoTwo building system module is due for completion by May 20th, 2009. The building system utilizes a MgO cement shell and will be constructed on the CMPBS site in Austin, Texas.

Please browse these pictures of the CMPBS team working on the module and the whole team in the foam structure and electrolysis machine. Click here to view the Flickr slideshow.

protoscopeThe most up to date ProtoScope graphics are now available online. The plates include details of some slides and updated ProtoOne and ProtoTwo building systems. Click here to view the plates.

The ProtoMetric concept in ProtoScope will be featured as one of 76 “serious, inspiring, far-fetched, and provacatiive ideas” for Texas’ future. To read Pliny’s idea for building global partnerships visit the Texas Monthly website.

The CMPBS booth will feature the ProtoScope plates at the Houston Green Expo. The Houston Green Expo is a consumer show focused on green building, energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative transportation. The expo will take place on April 18th and 19th at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. Please visit the Houston Green Expo website for more information.

Pliny will be lecturing about ProtoScope to students and the public at Washington University in St. Louis as part of their I-CARES Distinguished Speakers Series on Monday, April 13 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the Steinberg Auditorium. See the I-CARES website for details.

Pliny will discuss ProtoScope at a public lecture co-hosted by the Ecosa Institute and the USGBC Greater Yavapai Provisional Branch at the Sweet Tart Cafe in Prescott, Arizona on Thursday, March 12 from 7-8PM. Sweet Tart Cafe is located at 125 North Cortez St.

Pliny will present ProtoScope to the faculty and students of the Ecosa Institute on Friday, March 13 from 9 AM to 4 PM. For more information about Pliny’s talk and the Institute please visit Ecosa’s website.

ProtoOne and ProtoTwo represent our efforts in establishing DfManuf., DfDisassembly, and deliverability as a stand alone or stand together building system of the future.

Welcome! In November of 2008 Pliny Fisk III and the staff and interns of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems submitted an entry into the 2009 Buckminster Fuller Challenge. The idea, known as ProtoScope, was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s concept of GeoScope. This blog will extend information, updates and discussion about ProtoScope to the general public.

For an brief overview of the ProtoScope concept please view the “About” section of the blog.

The original entry will be available online the Bucky Fuller Challenge Idea Index.

Check back soon for updates and upcoming events related to ProtoScope.
